Listening Techniques

How do you determine the causes of a patient's pain and dysfunction? Listening Techniques — palpation tools developed by Jean-Pierre Barral — help answer this question, strengthening diagnostic skills regardless of the therapeutic method used.

Step-by-step program

LT1 Listening Techniques 1: An Integrative Approach to Evaluation +

The Listening Techniques training, made up of two parts, extends the evaluation techniques presented in the Visceral Manipulation and Neural Manipulation courses. Between the first and second part of the course, the therapist should practice the techniques learned.

  • Practicing the skill of "listening" (palpation) to help direct manual manipulation to the right location.
  • Interpreting information from the body regarding imbalance and dysfunction.
  • Determining, through "listening", which structures are involved and choosing the best treatment approach.
  • Practicing "listening" to the body's systems and their response to manual work.
  • Proper approach and required force when working on different body areas in different patients.
  • Increasing precision in assessing a patient's restriction patterns and developing palpatory sensitivity.

Prerequisites: VM1 or NM1 or NMAA (any part)

LT2 Listening Techniques 2: An Advanced Evaluation Approach to Total Body Systems +

During the second part of the course, participants build on the skills from LT1, refining their abilities and learning even more precise discrimination through listening.

  • The ability to listen to the brain, nerves, vascular system and joints.
  • Deepening the "listening" skill that helps direct manual manipulation to the right location.
  • Refining the interpretation of information from the body regarding imbalance and dysfunction.
  • Practicing "listening" to the body's systems and their response to manual work.

Prerequisites: LT1
